About Israelity: Israelity is a popular blog produced by Israeli21C with hundreds, if not thousands of posts that have been written over the past four years. The goal of the blog is to show people that Israel is not just a place of conflict, but also a society rich in culture, business, community, etc.

About the project: Israelity brought us in to freshen up the blog, inside and out. The blog was running on an outdated version of WordPress, and due to its age and the number of posts the database needed some serious optimization. We cleaned up the site’s “kishkas” and brought it up to date, and customized a more contemporary theme that allowed the staff to add more features and content, while retaining some of the look-and-feel of the previous design.

About Natan Sharansky: Natan Sharansky is a human rights activist and promoter of democratic values and freedom for all the world’s citizens. After spending nearly a decade in a Soviet prison, Sharansky eventually won his freedom and the right to emigrate to Israel. Following his arrival in Israel, Natan Sharansky served in four successive Israeli governments as Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, published three bestselling books, and was a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1986 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. He serves as the Chairman of the Adelson Institute for Strategic Studies at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem as well as Chairman of One Jerusalem and Beth Hatefutsoth, the Jewish Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv. He remains a champion of the right of all people to live in freedom, and that the advancement of liberty is critical to peace and security around the world.

About the project: Sharansky and his staff sought to ramp up his web presence. To achieve this goal, illuminea created a comprehensive social media strategy, and mapped out the strategy of Sharansky’s blog as well. Sharansky’s site/blog is based on a custom design created in-house at the Shalem Center, which we implemented with custom programming on the WordPress platform. illuminea was also responsible for the initial content strategy, including aggregating, tagging and categorizing all of Sharansky’s previously published articles, and creating content for the pages on the site describing Sharansky’s life and achievements.

As part of this project and in line with the social media strategy developed by illuminea, Sharansky also became active on the following social networks: facebook, twitter, YouTube, delicious, and flickr.

Daniel Gordis – Dispatches from an Anxious State

About Daniel Gordis: Dr. Daniel Gordis is Senior Vice President of the Shalem Center, where he is also a senior fellow. The author of numerous books on Jewish thought and currents in Israel, Dr. Gordis was the founding dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the University of Judaism, the first rabbinical college on the West Coast of the United States. Dr. Gordis joined Shalem in 2007 to help found Israel’s first liberal arts college, after spending nine years as vice president of the Mandel Foundation in Israel and director of its Leadership Institute.

About the project: Dr. Gordis had been running a site for a number of years based on an ASP platform. The platform was very limiting in its feature-set and usability, and the design was getting dated. In addition, it was considered worthwhile to become more active on the social networks. illuminea worked closely with the Shalem Center’s in-house graphic designer to create the new look-and-feel of Dr. Gordis’ site, along with implementing a number of custom-programmed pages and features in order to showcase the content in the best way possible.

About Israel Nonprofit News: Israel Nonprofit News is a private initiative by Pamela Deutsch aimed at increasing awareness within the English speaking public to the wonderful work being done by Israeli non-profits.

Pamela, an independent marketing consultant who specializes in advising non-profit organizations, is tired of reading bad news. She believes that there is a lot of good news out there and that we just need to share the information. Her efforts are very timely, as Israeli nonprofits need all the help they can get in these difficult times.

All of the organizations Pamela writes about are organizations with which she has some kind of consulting relationship and that she personally believes are both doing a good job and are reliable! Pamela’s goal is to attract new clients; either nonprofits looking to improve their marketing efforts and fundraising skills, or donors who want to verify the impact of their contributions.

About the project: Pamela wanted to bring her extensive knowledge and passion for Israeli non-profits to the web. In order to accomplish this goal, illuminea worked closely with Pam to create a site that presents various types of content in a user-friendly fashion. Among the various custom features we included is the ability for Pamela to manually enter related posts for the non-profits she profiles in her Israel Nonprofit directory.

Tene Investment Funds

Tene Investment Funds is an Israeli private equity firm focusing on established growth companies in Israel with leading global market positions. They turned to illuminea to help them redo their site with the following goals in mind: a professional presentation with a usable and flexible content management system that would give them complete control of the content on their site. illuminea developed the site on WordPress, utilizing WordPress’ built in functionalities and adding advanced customizations to meet Tene’s specifications, including the following:

Flash header with changing images that Tene can manage and change themselves
Ajax sliding portfolio section featuring the companies that Tene supports with complete control from the admin
News and archive section based on WordPress’ blogging platform
Customized Team section with a unique profile photo gallery for each team member
Customized login area for limited partners to see user-specific announcements for their company.

These elements presented Tene Investment Funds with a high level, professional, and easy to manage website.

Loolwa Writing Services

Loolwa Khazzoom is a widely published writer on a diverse range of topics for leading magazines and newspapers — including Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, Yoga Journal, Seventeen, and more.

Loolwa approached illuminea for rebranding and a redesign of her website to reflect her writing services as a freelance writer. Loolwa’s goal for rebranding was to promote herself as a professional writer with a creative edge. We designed the logo by incorporating her unique signature and giving it some elegant finishing touches.

With the logo in place, we began to address Loolwa’s needs for her website. Loolwa needed her website to showcase her writing samples, be a place for potential clients to contact her with writing gigs, improve her ranking in search engines, and become a social media hub. And from a site manager perspective, she needed to easily manage the content on her site, which is why we used.. wait for it… WordPress!

Here are some of the unique features that we implemented on Loolwa.com:

Feature sliding portfolio to showcase her writing samples
Easy to use archive of writing samples for potential clients to browse through by magazine title or by topic
Built-in blog to display her latest thoughts on the writing industry and be able to publish keyword rich content to boost search engine rankings
Social media hub: illuminea set up profiles for Loolwa on the major social networks: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Delicious. illuminea also set up blog posts to automatically update on her various networks so readers could interact off-site as well.

About Outside Counsel Solutions (OCS)- Outside Counsel a law firm that provides the services of exceptional attorneys to companies (from start-up to Fortune 500), individuals, and law firms.

About the Project: OCS approached illuminea seeking a professional web presence that highlights OCS advantages – affordability and expertise. They wanted to showcase the OCS attorneys, their accomplishments, and their experience in a wide variety of practice areas.

Using WordPress, illuminea built OCS a professional website with a variety of features and advanced customization.

Here are some of the features on the OCS site:

Customized attorney photo gallery with an easy to manage user interface
Unique, professional, and clean design with lots of white space
Homepage slider that features each attorney, their thumbnail image, their credentials, and a link to the attorney’s bio on the site.
